How To Care For Sensitive Skin By James McKay Interestingly enough, many people have serious reactions to the ingredients in a wide range of skin care products. Usually this is due to such things as detergents, alcohol or drying agents that irritate the skin, and which can bother people who arent technically sensitive skin types at all. There are also some people who have truly sensitive skin that might demonstrate signs of the conditions known as eczema or rosacea, and which may even be bothered by weather conditions.
How do such people care for their skin? Like all others, they will do best to enter into a regular skin care regimen that includes cleansing, moisturizing and protecting. The best skin care products for anyone who has experienced frequent bouts of skin sensitivity are going to be those entirely free of fragrance, coloring, preservatives or unnecessary materials.
The facial cleanser (which can be used twice daily) should be one of the soap and alcohol free skin care products that also offers a bit of moisturizing if possible. Immediately following the cleansing, the person with sensitive skin will want to only blot their face dry, and while the skin is still damp, apply a moisturizer. This too should be geared towards someone with sensitive skin and have hypoallergenic properties, but not redundant or potentially problematic ingredients either. They might also want to elect to use a moisturizer that also contains an effective sun block as well.
Toning is never done for the facial or body skin on those of the sensitive variety. This is because the stringent properties of most toners are too harsh for the skin and can lead to problems.
While it might be tempting to use some of the specialized skin care products that are geared towards reducing or eliminating wrinkles or under-eye circles, most such creams will contain alpha hydroxyl or retinoids, which are a serious irritant to those with truly sensitive skin. There are also very few facial masks or other treatments that will not bother the skin because they are geared towards sub-surface effects, and this often leads to irritation. There are some specialty manufacturers who supply skin care products especially designed for those with sensitivity issues, and these should always be applied to a small test area before broad application.
Makeup is now being made for those with sensitive skin as well, but it is the removal process that can lead to some trouble. For this reason, it is wise to purchase any makeup cleansers or removers from the same company that made the makeup in the first place. This will greatly reduce the chances for negative interaction and will allow for the best results.
